Looking at Gregory Crewdson’s work, it is hard to believe it is photography. His pictures are meticulously planned scenes that look more like film stills than ordinary photographs. He shoots on a large-format analogue camera for maximum detail.
I’m interested in that moment of transcendence, when you’re transported to another place, a perfect, still world.
Brief Encounters takes you behind the scenes of his process and shows how a photograph on this scale is made. The film is in English.
You can leaf through a Crewdson book in the gallery library.
