Community Darkroom

Berliner Strasse Lab is a community darkroom: a place to work professionally with analogue photography and to learn it.

A community darkroom combines a lab, an education programme and a community. It is open to visitors: some come to work, others to watch, learn and talk. The lab is shared, so you book time and use it.

Why a community darkroom

  • Supporting and developing analogue photography as a professional practice, building a local community
  • Demystifying analogue processes: it’s not magic that nobody understands, but processes anyone can learn
  • A place for slow, careful work with photography
  • A place to go through mistakes together and learn from each other
  • A place to grow professionally: print work for exhibitions, sell prints through the gallery, swap prints with other members of the community

Capabilities

  • Development: colour processes (C-41, ECN2), black-and-white, colour slide
  • Printing: colour and black-and-white, 135 and 120 formats
  • Lith printing
  • Ambrotype
  • Scanning: 135 and 120 film, prints, Polaroids and more

For any process you can book a guide: we show and explain everything and stay with you the whole time, so your results come out right.
