The Kharkiv School of Photography was an artistic milieu where a new visual language, free of Soviet dogma, took shape. It defined Ukrainian photography for decades to come, and over more than 50 years it became both an aesthetic system and a documentary chronicle.
This will not be about biographies — you can find those on Wikipedia. Nor about the ideas described in Nadiia Bernar-Kovalchuk’s photo book (there is a copy in the gallery library). We will talk about photography as a link between then and now, and about its place in art and in our cultural memory.
The lecture is given by Volodymyr Tarasov, a historian, cultural scholar and photographer.
