Graffiti usually exists out of reach. Nobody looks for it in open spaces, and it is never shown head-on.

So how do you photograph it? And what is the photographer’s role?

Join us for the launch of Ivan Khanas’s zine. Ivan has worked with analogue photography for about 10 years, shoots on different formats and explores Ukrainian graffiti through photography. He is now working on a book, and the zine No Access is its prequel.

In it, Ivan tries to understand and convey what graffiti culture in Ukraine is, what role the photographer plays in it, and where the line runs between how open and how closed this world is. He explains how he got access to what is off-limits and why graffiti has to stay in the shadows. He also asks what exactly makes graffiti art.

The zine was published with the support of Vulychnyi, a shop that promotes graffiti culture in Ukraine.

At the launch Ivan will talk about the project in more detail, and copies of the zine will be on sale.
