“Halchenko – 2” is a series of photographs by Vlad Halchenko taken over the past few years. During this time the author has been living with anxiety and depression, a state that changes perception: moments seem to pass by before they can be fully taken in. Here photography becomes a way to return to these situations later, and to keep what couldn’t be lived in the moment: people, places, short episodes of everyday life. “You eat and don’t enjoy the taste, you touch a woman but your thoughts are already elsewhere, you look at a beautiful sunset but see only a yellow circle. I couldn’t fully live most of these moments; they slipped away like water through my fingers. I had to preserve them for better times, to remember how good it was after all, sometimes even when it was bad.” It’s a very personal story, but a familiar one: about moments we don’t always manage to feel but can see again. The author shoots on film and Polaroid and avoids staged photographs.
