“The First of Mercedonius” is a handmade zine and artbook with reproductions and poetic reflections on a series of landscape photographs by Yevhenii Svishchov and Nataliia Radchuk, taken in the Svydovets range of the Carpathians on the day the full-scale war began. “The news of the invasion found us in the snowy silence of the mountains and left us strangely lost, somewhere outside of place, in a misty, endless space that was, for that moment, safe. Shooting that day, with no idea of our own future or the future of these frames, we were trying to capture our own state of mind together with, or even instead of, the landscape.” Mercedonius was the 13th, extra month of the ancient Roman calendar, inserted from time to time between 23 and 24 February.
