Ambrotypes. Dmytro Trush

October 20, 2024 - January 10, 2025

Dmytro Trush is a photographer who works with ambrotype, mostly in portraiture. A separate strand of his practice is botanical photography: a series of images of different plants that he is still working on.

Ambrotype is a photographic process that appeared in the mid-19th century. A glass plate is coated with a light-sensitive layer and exposed; once developed, the image has a silvery sheen and great sharpness.

When I started making ambrotypes, my first subject was cotton. I saw deep symbolism in it, especially against the background of the war. I have always been drawn to unusual plants, so I began looking for interesting specimens and photographing them.
